CODE RED!
A REPORT
ON
CLIMATE CHANGE
Delay is no longer an option & Denial is no longer an acceptable response
“I play fictitious characters often solving fictitious problems. I believe
mankind has looked at climate change in the same way, as if it were
a fiction.” -Leonardo DiCaprio
“Climate change isn’t something people get to choose to believe or
not: its happening.” –Matt Gaetz
“Nobody on this planet is going to be untouched by the impacts of
Climate Change.” –Rajendra K. Pachauri
IS CLIMATE CHANGE FOR REAL OR JUST A SCARE TO MAKE US
CARE?
IT’S TIME TO
‘GET SCARED’
UN REPORT SAYS,
“WEATHER EVENTS TO BE MORE SEVERE”
So we have known for decades that the world is warming but this report tells
us that the recent changes in the climate are widespread, rapid and intensifying for example this report tells us that each of the past 4 decades has been warmest on record since pre-industrial times. Further it is indisputable
that human activities are causing climate change, Human influence is making
extreme climate events including heat waves, heavy rainfall and droughts
more frequent and severe.
EXPERTS WARN OF MASSIVE WAKE-UP CALL
CLIMATE REPORT
CODE RED FOR HUMANITY
The report shows that in the next 20 years global average temperature is
expected to reach or exceed 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
UN WARNS
SEA LEVEL RISE IRREVERSIBLE
Regardless of how quickly we get our emissions down we’re likely looking at 15
to 30 centimeter (6-12 inches) of global average sea level rise through the
middle of this century.
“IT’S NOT CLIMATE CHANGE,
IT’S CLIMATE CHAOS”
IT’S CLIMATE CHAOS
“TEMPERATURES WILL KEEP RISING”
Man's relationship to the Natural World, a world that we collectively felt as the
hottest in 7 years since 2015 in recorded history, with 2016, 2019 and 2020
constituting the top three. Climate change is real and it is happening right now.
The scientific community knows it, factories knows it, and the government
know it. Climate change is the single greatest security threat facing our entire
species and we need to work collectively together, we need to support leaders
of the world who speak for all of humanity and for those people whose voices
have been drowned by the politics of greed.
Solving this crisis is not a question of politics, it is the question of our own
survival.
In June 2019, one million species of plants and animals were at risk of
extinction. At least 571 species have been lost since 1750, but likely many
more. The main cause of the extinctions is the destruction of natural habitats
by human activities, such as cutting down forests and converting land into
fields for farming.
Climate change is a "direct driver" speeding up the depletion of species,
Changes in climate have had an impact. But the strongest contention is that
the ultimate cause for this loss is our own species, Homo sapiens. We have
made species extinct more than any other animal.
Humans can cause extinction of a species through overharvesting, pollution,
habitat destruction, introduction of invasive species (such as new predators
and food competitors), overhunting, and other influences. Explosive,
unsustainable human population growth and increasing per capita
consumption are essential drivers of the extinction crisis.
Surprised? After all, we’re animals too, and since we’ve been killing each
other for 10,000 years, with the total deaths from war alone estimated at
between 150 million and 1 billion, it’s a no-brainer that we top the list. We're
dangerous to other animals, too—think global warming, the destruction of
forests and coral reefs, and over tourism. We Humans have the capacity to
annihilate our entire planet with a host of horrifying weapons like nuclear
devices and genetically-modified superbugs.
So the average human isn’t the most deadly animal on earth, it’s the human
species as a whole.
Every week we’re seeing new and undeniable climate events, evidence that
accelerated climate change is here right now. Droughts are intensifying. Our
oceans are acidifying with methane plumes rising up from the ocean floor.
We are seeing extreme weather events and the West Antarctic and Greenland
ice sheets melting at unprecedented rates, decades ahead of scientific
projections.
At a time when the world is really under the adverse effect of Global warming
the United Nations climate change panel has now drop the bomb shell in its
new report. The 42 page climate report is drafted by 234 scientists from 66
countries and the combined warning now offers a very hotter future even if a
few countries manage to reach net zero emissions by 2050.The United Nations
has named the report CODE RED for humanity.
This is a significant shift from the body's previous stance. Earlier the UN
climate panel shied away from blaming industrial activity. The report warn that
temperatures will keep rising even after severe carbon emissions are cut.
Extreme weather events will continue to take place from flash floods to
wildfires. Countries across the world will have to remain prepared.
GET READY TO FIGHT!
Study show that severe heat waves have become common now from once in
every 50 years heat waves are now happening once in 10 years ,the report
found that once in a decade heavy rain events and now 1.3 times more likely
to happen. Once in a decade droughts now could happen every 5 or 6 years.
The report also warn that the arctic summers could soon be free of ice, the
region is warming twice as fast as the global average and the situation could
turn grim by 2050. Sea levels will continue to rise, calling for rapid methane
cuts, the trend may last for thousands of year.
The UN said climate panel said that the world is running out of time to tackle
the climate crises countries are yet to meet the goals of the Paris agreement
which was adopted in 2015.
Reactions have started pouring in. The UN chief said that there is irrefutable
evidence that greenhouse gas emissions are choking our planet and that
billions of people are in danger. The European Union also sounded more
optimistic saying that there was still time to prevent runaway climate change,
It added that the world need to act together and implement Carbon net zero
policies. Meanwhile climate activist Greta Thunberg said that the report
contains no real surprises and only confirmed what scientists have already
been warning us about she added that the World must take decisions based on
scientific evidence to avoid the worse consequences. Greenpeace said that it
was time for the government to act and the world cannot keep hitting the
snooze button on action to stop climate catastrophe.
The scientists can publish these reports but ultimately the action has to be led
by Governments.
DO SOMETHING.
This planet cannot be saved till we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they
belong.
To be clear this is not about just telling people to change their light bulbs or to
buy a hybrid car. This disaster has grown beyond the choices that individuals
make. This is now about our industries and our governments around the world
taking decisive large-scale action. We need to support leaders around the
world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations but who
speak for all of humanity, for the billions and billions of underprivileged
people who would be most affected by this and for those people out there
whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.
“You can make history or be vilified by it.”
Now must be our moment for action.
We need to put a price tag on carbon emissions and eliminate government
subsidies for all oil, coal and gas companies ($5.3 trillion per year according to
the IMF). We need to end the free ride that industrial polluters have been
given in the name of a free market economy. They do not deserve our tax
dollars, they deserve our scrutiny. The economy itself will die if our ecosystems
collapse.
The good news is that renewable energy is not only achievable but good
economic policy.
This is not a partisan report, It’s is a human one. Clean air and a livable climate
are inalienable human rights. And solving this crisis is not a question of politics.
It is a question of our own survival.
This is the most urgent of times and the most urgent of messages.
EFFECTS:
Hotter temperatures, shrinking ice sheets
More severe storms, Glacial retreat
Increased drought, Decreased snow cover
A warming, rising ocean
Loss of species
Not enough food
More health risks
Poverty and displacement
MAIN CAUSES:
Generating power
Manufacturing goods
Cutting down forests
Using transportation
Consuming too much
The result is a steady increase in carbon in the atmosphere and in the
oceans. Which look like this graph (given below) in the context of
history. So the carbon parts per million has really been bouncing around
the 300 level for around 10 million years and in the last few hundred
years it went into a vertical climb. This is the essence of the problem,
this is very unusual and a very extreme threat as you can see from this
rate of growth. Then all this is accompanied by temperature increase.
THE GOAL
EXIT THE FOSSIL FUELS ERA
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
DIFFICULT BUT ACHIEVEABLE TASK
That means we need to move from the old pre-industrial goals which was to
move from chopping down forests and killing lots of whales to fossil fuels
which actually in that context was a good thing but the new goal is to move to
sustainable energy future using things like hydro, solar, wind and geothermal.
We had to use energy resources that will be good for a million years. The net
result is 35 gigatons of carbon per year into the atmosphere. The solution,
obviously, is to remove the subsidy. That means we need to have carbon tax,
so this would be a case of increasing taxes on carbon but then reducing taxes
in other places. With this only those using high levels of carbon would pay an
increased tax. Moreover, in order to give industries time to react this could be
phased in approach for example maybe it takes 5 years before the carbon
taxes are very high that means the only companies that don’t take action today
will suffer in 5 years. But there needs to be a clear message from government
in this regard because the fundamental problem is the rules today incent
people to create carbon and this is madness. Whatever you incentivize will
happen. That’s why we’re seeing very little effect thus far. And depending
upon what actions we take will drive the carbon number to either extreme or
moderate levels
So the question is “What can you do?”
SPEAK UP!
I would say whenever you have the opportunity, talk the Leaders or Politicians
talk to your friends about it and fight propaganda from the carbon industry.
That’s the basic message I have.
Let us not take this Planet for granted I do not take this report for granted.
